Sometimes, the best career paths are the ones we don’t plan for. That was certainly the case for Claudia, whose journey into the machinery and engineering industry began by chance. With two young children, she was searching for a role that would fit around her family life when she came across a part-time position as a PA at Machinery World. What started as a practical decision soon turned into a career she couldn’t imagine leaving.
Passion & Inspiration
One of the aspects Claudia enjoys most about her work is the opportunity to use her multilingual skills daily. Being able to communicate in multiple languages has opened doors to exciting experiences, particularly when it comes to international travel.
“I have the opportunity to travel and visit the most amazing food exhibitions,” she says. “It’s fantastic.”
When asked about the most exciting project she’s worked on, she finds it impossible to choose just one.
“I find all projects exciting—small or big. Concluding and finalising a deal is always very rewarding.”
Career & Growth
Since stepping into the industry, Claudia has worn many hats at Machinery World. Starting as a PA, she then took on roles as a transport coordinator and later as a buyer.
“I have had the opportunity to work in several departments,” she explains. “I like to think that in the last few years, I have established my name in the second-hand machinery business.”
Through these experiences, she has developed a skill she values above all others: patience.
“Patience, patience, and patience,” she says with a smile.
Working in a male-dominated field has also shaped her confidence and resilience.
“I have always been a confident woman, but gaining technical knowledge in this industry has boosted my can-do attitude even further.”
Empowerment & Leadership
For young women considering a career in the machinery or engineering field, Claudia has one key piece of advice:
“Confidence is the key! Be open-minded and confident. If you like the technical, industrial world… be confident and go for it!”
She credits her own career growth to a simple but powerful lesson she learned early on.
“When I first started working, my line manager told me, ‘Don’t ever be scared of any opportunity that comes your way.’ I’ve kept that alive in my mind ever since.”
Her role requires self-motivation, something she fuels by actively seeking out opportunities.
“I have to generate my own work, fishing for opportunities on a daily basis. That’s what keeps me motivated,” she says. “I’m also part of a fantastic team at Machinery World. We all have different areas of expertise, and we share our knowledge in team meetings, which is really valuable.”
Workplace & Team Dynamics
For Claudia, one of the best parts of working at Machinery World is the office atmosphere.
“It’s kind and friendly. Plus, I can go for a country walk during my lunch break—it’s invigorating.”
She also values the shared sense of purpose among her colleagues.
“Personally, I like the fact that we all have shared values. It’s important for me to work in an environment I can identify with.”
Celebrating Success
After nearly 14 years with Machinery World, Claudia sees her long tenure as one of her proudest achievements.
“I love the idea of many more years to come!” she says.
Looking ahead, it’s the unknown possibilities that excite her the most.
“Not knowing what opportunity might be waiting for me around the corner—that’s what keeps it exciting.”
And when success comes—whether it’s hers or a colleague’s—there’s only one way to mark the occasion.
“Party time!” she laughs.
With a career shaped by confidence, curiosity, and a willingness to embrace new opportunities, Claudia’s story is proof that sometimes, the best journeys begin by accident.
